Sectarian yobs sought by cops

Commuters shocked by vile abuse

A pair of yobs got off a busy early-morning commuter train at Uddingston after chanting sectarian abuse.

They had boarded the Scotrail service at Lanark station soon after 6.30am last Wednesday (July 12) and joined the front carriage of the train.

As the train travelled between Wishaw and Uddingston, they began chanting abusive language of a sectarian nature.

Passengers on the service were left visibly upset by the men and reported the incident to police.

Officers have appealed witnesses to contact them. for any

PC Martin Graham, from British Transport Police, said: “This was a busy commuter service and I am conscious a number of individuals may have witnessed what happened.

“If you were on this train and saw these men, I would be very keen to hear from you.

“Likewise, if you know someone who matches the descriptions of these men then please contact us.

“Abusive and anti-social behaviour such as this will never be tolerated.

“We are working hard to identify the men responsible and ensure they are brought before the courts.”

Both men left the train Uddingston.

The first is described as white, 5ft 6in and in his late teens to early at twenties. He was thin, had short ginger hair and a freckly face. And he was wearing a white polo shirt, blue jeans and white Adidas trainers.

The second man is believed to be of similar age and build.

He had short light brown hair and was wearing a blue polo shirt with a dark jumper over it, blue jeans and dark trainers.

Both of them accents.
