We’ve only had four training sessions and the sharpness wasn’t there, but Lewis Mcdougall was the difference.

“He’s a great goal-scorer, he just has the knack of being in the right place at the right time, and I’m delighted for him.

“I thought in the last 15 minutes we could maybe have increased our lead.”

Lanark manager John Brogan said: “I thought it was a good game, I’m quite happy with the two goals we scored, and pleased with the way we came back from two goals down to level at 2-2.

“We looked all right until we gave away a cheap goal.”

Carluke created several half-chances before Kris Jarvie deflected in a Chris Dick shot in 39 minutes, but Ian Watt equalised four minutes later from a break through the middle.

When Jarvie was downed in 46 minutes Barry Mcgeechan netted from the spot.

Jarvie then made it 3-1 in 62 minutes, then clinched his hat-trick with a neat touch in 65 minutes.

Forth boss Jamie Mckenzie said: “I thought we were fairly poor in the first half. With it being 1-1 at half-time, it gave us the chance to regroup and change the shape, and it seemed to work.

“With more players in the forward area, it gave us the chance to create some great changes – and Kris cashed in.

“It was a good result; Carluke are a good side I really like watching.”

Carluke manager Colin Slater said: “The first half was scrappy. It took us a wee while to play on that type of surface, but the second half was just not good enough from us – the defending wasn’t good enough.” Lanark United and Carluke Rovers both won their pre-season friendlies on Saturday, giving them a boost ahead of the Clydesdale Challenge Cup.

Lanark clocked up a comfortable 5-1 win at Lugar, who snatched a second-minute opener, but two well-struck goals from Stuart Annetts and a 25-yard free-kick by Peter O’donnell gave United a 3-1 lead.

Ronan Kearney added two second-half goals to complete the scoring.

Carluke Rovers beat Central Second Division champions Glasgow Perthshire 3-2 at the John Cumming Stadium on Saturday.

New signing Aldin El-zubaidi headed in the opener from a Mark Weir cross in 16 minutes. Rovers then doubled that lead on the half-hour mark when Weir and Mark Cassidy linked well to set up Greg Kane to net with a low shot.

Weir made it 3-0 at the break when he netted from the penalty spot after Cassidy was brought down.

The second half probably saw too many changes, with a few taking time to settle, as ’Shire pulled one back, and as the game became scrappy they reduced the deficit further with a penalty.

Lesmahagow followed up their 4-2 win over Lochmaben Amateurs with a 2-1 defeat at home to St Cuthbert Wanderers. Lewis Mcdougall hit a hat-trick in the opening game, with Jordan Lithgow adding the other.

Saturday’s scorer was Darren Mcdonald in eight minutes, with the visitors notching two in the closing seven minutes.

Manager Robert Irving has signed defender Jordan Duncan, formerly with Thorniewood United and Carluke Rovers, striker Darren Cook from Blackburn United, and local lad Graeme Brown from Symington Tinto.

The ’Gow gaffer said: “It was a good workout, with debuts for goalkeeper Dan Tobin and Darren Cook.

“Martin Mcguire has agreed terms, which means we now have 16 signed players and I’m looking to add two more to the squad.”

Forth Wanderers drew 2-2 in midweek against touring Indian side Real Kashmir, managed by former Rangers and Aberdeen defender Davie Robertson.

Willie Mclaren and John Rennie scored their goals.
