Students from Larkhall Academy have teamed up with the town’s businessmen for a number of exciting projects.

Larkhall Professional and Businessmen’s Club have been working with the children from the school’s Additional Support Needs group for some years now.

Earlier this year the club were successful in obtaining a grant from Awards For All to allow Charles Provan, a member of the club and an artist, to work on a voluntary basis along with two artists in residence with pupils from the ASN group at Larkhall Academy.

The project involves teaching the pupils new skills in glass art and stained glass work.

David Brown of LPBC said: “Recently we were successful in obtaining a further grant from South Lanarkshire Council which will allow the club to commission a well known artist to produce some glass art pieces for the new ‘Wild Life Garden’ at the Community Garden Larkhall. Some of the work of the ASN group will be incorporated or adapted for the commissioned work.

“As the theme was ‘wild Life’ throughout the year Charles has been organising tutors and speakers to visit the pupils.

“And within the LPBC we have two members Steve Winterbotham and Tom Bainbridge who are both experts on snakes and lizards and Charlie arranged for them to go along to the academy and give the pupils a hands on experience and talk to the pupils.” A Larkhall-based nursery is up for a top industry award.

The Scottish NMT Nursery Awards are designed to discover and reward the very best people in the Scottish nursery sector.

And Happy Feet Nursery are going for Gold again.

Winners of the Scottish NMT Nursery Awards 2017 will be presented with their trophies by Cat Harvey at a bash this Friday at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel.

Happy Feet Nursery have been shortlisted in the top five in Scotland for the category Individual Nursery Award 2017.

Following on from last years’ success at the NMT Gala Finals, where Happy Feet Nursery scooped first prize as the Best Nursery Team in Scotland, the nursery is looking to add another title.

Business owner Patrick Holtz is delighted with the recognition achieved over the past six since starting Happy Feet Nursery.

He said: “We have come a long way in a short space of time and the national awards recognise the great work the staff and management do on a daily basis.

“We’re going from strength to strength and invest in our staff and resources to provide the best professional childcare service in the area.

“Our continually high occupancy levels year on year show how popular we are regarded by parents.”
