Group enjoy talk from Knight Alan
Jim Robinson, the President of the Larkhall Professional and Businessmen’s Club, welcomed members to their August meeting and had the pleasure of introducing fellow member Alan Mcculloch whose topic was the Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller.
Born in Motherwell, Alan attended Dalziel High School before studying law at various universities before becoming a senior partner with Alex L Wright and Co in Motherwell, employing eight lawyers and a host of back up staff.
Alan joined the Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller in 2010, being invested as a knight in Budapest. Alan is now Prior of the Order in Scotland.
The Sovereign Order is an Ecumenical Christian Order, focused on the traditions of helping the sick and the poor and maintaining more than 900 years of tradition.
Alan gave a detailed history of the S.O.S.J.K.H. and brought it right up to date with a summary of monies raised (and the various ways of doing so) for hospitals both at home and abroad. The vote of thanks was delivered by Cameron Robbie. The next meeting of the club takes place on Monday, September 11, and it will take the form of an outside visit. The club members will be heading to Bannockburn.
The next committee meeting will be held at the Radstone Hotel on Tuesday, September 12, at 7pm.
