-

John Brogan clocked up his first league win as Wishaw manager when he steered his side to an impressive 5-1 win at home to East Kilbridethistle.

“It was an excellent performance – definitely something to build on,” said John (pictured) after his Beltane league debut.

Vinnie Mcguire scored within two minutes, Ryan Smillie made it 2-0 and Mcguire headed a third before Thistle pulled one back before half-time through Kevin Mclean.

Mcguire nodded in after of the restart, and Smillie wrapped up with a fine shot for the fifth.

Defender Barry Eley was transferred last Thursday to Cambuslang and ex-boss Chris Mcgroarty has taken centre-half Scott Falconer to Kilsyth Rangers.

Elsewhere, Gary Campbell hit an injury-time winner to give Blantyre Vics a 5-4 win at home to Glasgow Perthshire.

Sam Mckenzie, Ross Caldwell and Chris Paterson fired Vics into a 3-0 lead before Shire pulled it back to 3-2 with strikes by Fraser Malcolm and Andy Gibson before half-time.

Shire’s John Frances then saw red but they still levelled through Craig Smith. Caldwell then made it 4-3 but Shire’s hit back again with a Davie Kirkwood free-kick before Campbell struck late on.

Vics manager John Gibson said: “it was a good hard game and I’m delighted with the three points.”

Thorniewood United fought back from 2-0 down at Rossvale to draw level with goals from Darren Ferguson and Lee Pettigrew, but Vale rallied to snatch late winner. Manager Gerry Bonham said: “we started poorly and lost a goal after four minutes, but we were a different team in the second half.

“We were missing eight players through injury and commitments.”

Forth Wanderers went down 4-2 at Neilston, with late goals from Willie Mclaren and Barry Mcgeachan.

The Shotts Bon Accord v Lesmahagow game was postponed.
