Kids enjoy boarding school trip

-

Larkhall Avondale Amateur Swimming Club attended their first residential training camp in over a decade – and plan to make it an annual event.

The club travelled to Kilgraston Boarding School in Bridge of Earn with 36 excited kids aged 8-17, five coaches and five chaperones for the camp, which ran from Monday towednesday.

Kids enjoyed six pool sessions, three land training sessions and three classroom sessions spread over the three days, outdoor games, tennis, team-building exercises and a BBQ, followed by their awards night.

Head coach Jan Sayer said:“even the 5.30am wake-up calls to be in the pool for 6am didn’t dampen the spirits or detract from their enjoyment.

“Everyone had a great time and learned lots about improving their skills and technique in the pool, whilst also improving their mind-set on nutrition.”

The club now hopes to make this an annual event, and they would like to thank Alex and Marie at South Lanarkshire Building Supplies for their kind donation to fund the healthy snacks and suppers.

Some of the club’s newest swimmers then took part in the Rutherglen Challenge Cup, while others headed to Cumbernauld for their autumn meet, with Rebecca Strachan (9) winning bronze in the 50m breaststroke and finishing sixth in the 200m free.

Alex Cumming (10) was fifth in 200m free and 100m IM. Addison Cole (9) and Emma Telfer (9) were sixth in 100 IM and 50 fly.
