Biggar show Howe to stay unbeaten
Howe of Fife ............ 20 Biggar ...................... 24
National League 2 Biggar made it two wins in as many BT National League 2 games as they squeezed past Howe of Fife.
Having notched up a derby win over Hamilton last week, Biggar took points from the other side to be relegated from last season’s National League 1.
Howe opened the scoring with a penalty and Carne Green missed a chance to tie, but when the hosts were caught offside and hooker Connor Crawford yellow-carded, Green slotted to level at 3-3.
The hosts bagged two tries either side of the interval, both converted by Cameron Ellison, for a 17-3 lead.
Biggar then won a penalty which Green kicked to the corner for a catch and drive, and when the pack drove the Howe eight back, Douglas Notman collapsed over the line, with Green converting, the score was pulled back to 13-10.
Two Green penalties then put Biggar ahead 16-13, and all to play for.
Biggar enjoyed their best spell of the game at this point and Alistair Sinclair’s try put them 21-13 ahead.
Howe came back into the game though and Cameron Patrick crashed over for a try, with Ellison’s conversion pulling the score back to just a point.
Biggar hit back once again, virtually from the restart, with Howe desperately trying to break out but being penalised, and Green struck again for 24-20.
The visitors were then forced to defend stoutly for the remainder of the game as Howe threw everything at them to try and snatch a win, but they held out.
