Plenty to ‘si’ for Spanish exchange kids

St John Ogilvie High welcomed 20 exchange students from Spain.

The young people were over from the Francisco Tárrega School in Vila-real.

And their visit coincided with St John Ogilvie celebratin­g the European Day of Languages.

Head teacher Eddie Morrison said:“this was another wonderful celebratio­n of European culture today in the school.

“It was an exciting, colourful day which reminds us how important it is to recognise and celebrate the rich cultures that are on our doorstep as Europeans.

“My thanks to all who contribute­d and especially to our friends from Vila-real who made the day extra special.”the highly-successful exchange partnershi­p has been going on for the last ten years.

While the Spanish visitors were in school, the canteen served a wonderful range of European dishes and there was musical entertainm­ent from the S1 cheerleade­rs. The school was awash with the colours of Spain, France, Italy, Poland and many more countries as the pupils reflected on what it means to be part of Europe.

Language staff from various universiti­es also visited classrooms to talk about their courses.
