Shotts BA ............... 6 Thorniewood ......... 1 Shotts produced a slick professional performance to down Thorniewood United 6-1 kin the Central First Division, taking their tally to 19 goals in two games.

Danny Burns and Steve Aitken went close before Andy Cross headed in an Aitken cross in 11 minutes.

After Burns hit the post, Cross nipped in to head a Glenn Eadie free-kick into the net in 26 minutes.

Then in 13 minutes Aitken rounded off a one-two with Burns to fire Shotts 3-0 in front, and four minutes before the break Burns netted from an Aitken pass.

Thorniewood made a double substitution at the break, with John Boal and Gerry Fallon replacing Gary Livingstone and Darren Cooke, and they briefly looked a bit more competitive, pulling a goal back through Chris Jackson in 65 minutes.

However, Shotts hit the target again with Burns netting from an Alex Mckee pass, then full-back Dominic Sullivan added a tap-in from a Burns cross in 85 minutes.

Shotts boss Kieran Mcguinness said: “Coaching during the week focused on urging them to focus on this form, and I thought the guys were on it from the first whistle.

“I thought it was a really good, professional performance and I thought we passed the ball really well, created a lot of chances, and we could probably have scored more.

“There was a wee lull for about 10 minutes in the second half when Thorniewood battled away and scored, but we got another goal to spur us on again and maintain our forward momentum.

“I’m delighted to see different guys getting on the score-sheet.”

Shotts racked up a recordbreaking 13-0 Scottish Cup win over Muirkirk last week, and Mcguinness said: “That’s five out of seven we’ve won – we’re on a good wee run, but I would have preferred these to have been league games to get points and ensure we don’t get detached from the teams at the top.”

Thorniewood manager Gerry Bonham said: “That was woeful, probably the worst I have been involved in as a player, a coach or a manager.

“It was embarrassing for the club, and last week’s Scottish Cup win is long forgotten now.”

The only other scheduled Central League First Division match, Blantyre Vics v Greenock, was postponed.

Super First Division side Larkhall Thistle used their blank Saturday to play Stoneyburn Amateurs in a friendly, and won 11-0.

Jon Mcstay hit four, Ryan Innes three, and there were doubles from Josh Payne and Mark Cuthbertson.
