Bellshill leap into third position

-

Eight county sides are still involved in the Scottish Junior Cup third round, with the draw on Tuesday handing home ties to two of them.

Bellshill Athletic will take on Ashfield at Rockburn Park, while near-neighbours Thorniewood United face East Kilbride Thistle.

Two others could have home ties depending on the outcome of secondround replays between Lesmahagow and Arthurlie and Forth Wanderers v Irvine Vics.

Blantyre Vics are away to Kennoway, Shotts Bon Accord are at Forfar West End, while Wishaw head to Dundee for a clash against Downfield.

Lanark United await the winners of the Penicuik v Kilbirnie replay, which would be an away fixture.

Ties are on Saturday, November 25. Bellshill Athletic beat Newmains United 3-0 to clock up their sixth win in 10 games, climbing into third place in the Central Second Division.

Paul Brennan fired the Rockburn Park side into a half-time lead from a Jordan Jeffrey cross, then in 65 minutes Alessandro Savarese, on loan from Rutherglen Glencairn, set up the second for John Reynolds to net.

Connor Brannigan clinched the three points with a low drive.

Manager Robert Sneddon said: “Newmains are improving a little with some new signings coming in, but I thought we dominated the game.

“The three points keeps us within the promotion pack.”

Carluke beat Vale of Leven 3-2, as John Dunn clocked up his first win as manager.

Vale snatched the opener in 15 minutes but five minutes into the second half Sam Biggart twice headed in James Martin crosses in a threeminute spell to put Rovers ahead.

Vale levelled, but sub Eddie Haley bagged the winner.

Lanark United went down 1-0 at home to Dunipace.

Manager Paul Burns said: “We had a poor first half, then after creating four, maybe five, good chances Dunipace went up the park and scored.”
