Council gives new electrical hub the nod
Councillors have approved plans for anew electrical sub station on ground at Elm Street, Blantyre.
At a meeting of the Housing and Technical Resources Committee last Wednesday (December 13) officials granted permission to ST Distribution PLC to construct the new sub-station and a right of access to maintain and inspect cables. They also agreed to a 99-year lease of ground on Elm Street between St Andrew’s Parish Church and the church hall.
The new sub-station will replace an older version to ensure that residents in the area have a continued electricity supply.
It will be constructed on the ground extending to nine square metres, which is owned by South Lanarkshire Council.
In a report to the committee meeting, Daniel Lowe, executive director (Housing and Technical Resources) stated:“by granting this lease, the council ensures that SP Distribution PLC can develop the new sub-station and sustain the supply of electricity to the Blantyre area.
“In addition, it grants SP Distribution future occupation of the site with an obligation to maintain it and their apparatus.
“Consultation was carried out within Housing and Technical Resources regarding the proposal and the requirement for this new sub-station is essential to assist with the continued power supply in the area.”
