Robert braves the shave in memory of his late friends

- Kirsten Mcstay

A Bothwell man has raised over £1200 in memory of friends Eilidh Mchugh and Leanne Hawkins.

Robert Gallacher decided to shave off his hair alongside 70 of his university pals to raise money for different cancer charities.

Many of them raised money for Cancer Research but Robert decided he would raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity, one which is particularly close to his heart.

The 20 year-old was friends with Eilidh and Leanne, who sadly passed away last year.

Eilidh, from Hamilton, was only 22 when she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

She lost her battle with the illness in March 2017.

Leanne, from Blantyre, was 21 when she died – just three weeks after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of stomach cancer.

Robert wanted to do something special on behalf of the girls and explained: “I worked with Leanne at Equi’s in Hamilton and became friends through that.

“And I was friends with Eilidh as our parents were best friends. Since I had such a personal connection with it, I decided to fundraise separately from the rest in memory of my two friends, so all the proceeds from my hair shave are going to Eilidh’s Beatson Cancer charity fund.” Robert added: “The night was amazing, everyone was absolutely buzzing about it.

“I’m honestly so chuffed response!”
