Nice try Ross – Inglis amongst top honours

Hamilton star rewarded aftertry of the Month nod

- Stuart Sutherland

Hamilton Rugby Club have got their season back on track – winning their last five games and edging into the top three to challenge for promotion.

And the visit of second-placed Lasswade on March 31 looks like it will be crucial in determining who goes up to National League 1.

One man relishing the Bulls’ revival is their top try-scorer, flying winger Ross Inglis, who has notched up 15 tries – including a stunning touchdown against Kirkcaldy before Christmas, which earned him the SRU Try of the Month award for December and January. Ross said: “There have been tries that I have worked harder for, or run further to score, but for the try against Kirkcaldy I was just lucky enough to get the final pass and dot down for what was a fabulous team try.

“One of our supporters analysed the score and reckoned there were five phases and 13 passes before Ross Mcqueen gave me a lovely reverse pass a couple of yards out.”

The try, which is well worth watching and can be seen on the Hamilton website, is automatically entered into the SRU Try of the Season competition, and will surely be a contender.

Ross was one of a group of Hamilton players who had their playing contributions to the club acknowledged at a recent celebration clubhouse.

Ross Jamieson, Fraser Dunnachie and club captain Mark Wallace all received speciallycommissioned ties from club vice-president Ross Whiteside, to mark their 50th games for the 1st XV.

Ross was awarded a cap to celebrate his 100th senior game for the club.

Pride of place went to Chris Mclaughlin, who was awarded a tankard to mark his 150th firstteam game.

Chris, or ‘Taz’ as he is better known, has played in three different positions over the years.

He started as a winger, before moving to wing forward and, as he bulked up, he has become a stalwart of the front row. in the Laigh Bent
