A Larkhall primary school has received a cash boost to help provide a new library for pupils.

Persimmon Homes West Scotland, based in Garthamlock, donated £1000 to Glengowan Primary through its Community Champions scheme.

The regional builder chose the school to benefit from its monthly match-funded donation.

The school, at Summerlee Road, now in its fifth year, applied for the funding as part of a fundraising effort to fill the school’s library with books.

Andrea Fleming, chair of the Glengowan Parent Group, said: “We were delighted to receive such a generous donation from Persimmon Homes. Our library is currently a room without books. As a parent group we decided to try to raise £5000 to purchase the books we need.

“The money will help us wonderful new books for the buy new library to be used by the whole school, as we want to create a vibrant hub for the children to use.”

Persimmon Homes is currently building new homes to the rear of Glengowan Primary school at the Laverock Rise development.

Doug Law, managing director of Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “We strongly believe in supporting the communities where we build, and we are delighted to be able to help a local primary school in this way.

“It is clear that hundreds of pupils will benefit from a new library and hopefully develop a real love of reading.

“If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again this year. Hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
