Say ‘sorry’ to God
By the Reverend John Carswell of Cadzow Parish Church
Easter has now come and gone and for those of us in the church it was a rich celebration, but what now and more importantly, what does it mean for everyone else?
The message is really the same for anyone and it can be summed up in one word: forgiveness.
That is, we can be forgiven for all our wrongs, all our mistakes, all the things we’re not proud of by speaking to God.
It doesn’t require a lot of fanfare or sharing dark secrets with someone else. It’s simply a short two-word conversation with God,“i’m sorry.”
The Apostle John wrote about Easter in his first letter to the church saying that Jesus Christ is“the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
Jesus solved the sin problem, giving his own life in place of ours: God forgives.
It really is an amazing thing to be forgiven, to know that God erases our past and forgets about everything, giving us hope for a new future. It’s like having a huge burden lifted from our shoulders.
Being forgiven also changes our relationship with other people because it makes it easier to forgive them as well; forgiveness is something we can share with others. It sure beats holding a grudge which only makes us bitter and unhappy.
So, give it a try, speak to God who created you and loves you and say,“i’m sorry.”
