Emergency services rushed to Larkhall town centre on Monday after a collision resulted in a car smashing into a shop.

Police sealed off Union Street following the two-car accident around 11.40am, with two people being taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers have confirmed that no charges have been made in respect of the accident.

The incident led to one car hitting the King Kone shop, denting the shutter and smashing the window behind it.

There also appeared to be some damage to the neighbouring Aroma cafe.

A worker at King Kone told the Advertiser: “I was on my way to the shop about noon when I got a call from staff who started at 11am. “They were very upset and asked me to come to the shop. “When I got there a car had crashed into the front of the shop, smashing the window and damaging the shutter. “It affected us mostly due to the fact that the staff member who was at the shop when it happened couldn’t work as she was in shock and obviously we couldn’t open until later on.” An employee at Aroma, who did not want to be named, said: “We didn’t see what happened but heard the impact. “There was a doctor in the shop and he went out and helped the lady driver and brought her inside. I think she had a sore arm. “We then phoned the emergency services.”
