Anniversary nursery in picture for a big year of fundraising

-

A Strathaven nursery celebrated its 20th birthday with a charity fundraiser for a mural at University Hospital Hairmyres.

Parents, kids and staff at Sweetie Brae Nursery decided to raise funds with their main objective to support a wall mural for the paediatric waiting area within the A&E department.

The kids had a great day with a children’s entertainer and Magic Muddles, with tea, coffee and cakes for everyone to enjoy.

The nursery children got to put their own stamp on the cakes by decorating them in the colours of each of the nursery’s group colours.

Sweetie Brae and the families raised a total of £849 through the event and the Strathaven and District Round Table were there to donate a very healthy £600 to the cause.

Nursery director Moira Fell stated that ideas have been inspired from the new Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

“I have been in an A&E department with my own child and know how difficult it is to distract them if there is nothing around of interest so feel this is essential to get right,”she said.

The team gave thanks to everyone who donated to the raffles, bought tickets and helped on the day.

Warburtons, who donated the rolls, and Tunnock’s, who donated the biscuits, were praised.

Sweetie Brae have set a target of raising £3000 by the end of the year.
