Peter said: “During out last visit our children were quick to settle in.

“Mara loved chasing the chickens to hold, thinking they were pets.

“Samuel and Nathanael were soon climbing trees and making friends with the local kids and it wasn’t long before they were all starting to learn a few words of Lugandan.

“Everyone was fascinated with the boys’ red hair and asked what chemicals they used to get it that colour.

“As soon as we left the centre the children asked when they could return and we are hoping to continue to build the links between Kitega and Stonehouse.

“We are trying to raise funds before we go in order to help bring these plans closer to fruition while we are out there.

“We hope that by living with the community in Kitega for a year we can bring learning and resources from Scotland Stonehouse’s Localeyes Optometris­ts were named opticians of the year.

Staff attended the Scottish Independen­t Retail Awards in Glasgow.

The awards recognise local businesses who have been nominated by members of the public for outstandin­g quality and customer service.

Colette Dunsmore of Localeyes said: “All our thanks go to our patients for supporting and voting for us. to Kitega and in turn new experience back from Kitega to Scotland again.” The family will also be hosting a quiz night and disco on June 23 at St Ninian’s Church, costing £5 (free for children).
