Accies lose in Dundee

-

Hamilton missed the chance to all-but secure Premiership football for next season as Dundee ran out 1-0 winners at Dens Park on Saturday.

Kevin Holt’s 18th-minute strike was enough to keep the points on Tayside, leaving Neil Mccann’s side needing a point to secure their place.

Following a dire first half, Hamilton came out fighting in the second half and were unlucky not to score on a few occasions.

None more so than captain Dougie Imrie, whose 87th-minute penalty was saved by Dundee keeper Elliott Parish, after debutante Daniel Jefferies had taken down Marios Ogkmpoe inside the box.

Dundee bagged their winner when Craig Wighton was sent down the left and he picked out Kevin Holt in the left corner of the box, who looked up before chipping past Gary Woods.

Hamilton could have levelled in 21 minutes when Darren Lyon played a cracking ball through to Ogkmpoe, but he didn’t get a clean enough connection and it was hacked clear.

Darren O’dea’s cross was headed past by Simon Murray as Dee tried to turn the screw, and Steven Caulker headed a Roarie Deacon corner over.

Rakish Bingham clipped the right post with a 19-yard free kick in 48 minutes, and Darian Mackinnon chipped a shot just wide moments later.

Bingham had a shot blocked before Antonio Rojano sent a header just wide.
