A double gold star
Mcguire in Madrid
Hamilton boccia star Steph Mcguire said he has had an incredible start to the year after winning four international gold medals in Madrid and Montreal.
Mcguire won double gold at a regional open competition in Madrid, and achieved the same in BC4 singles and pairs at the BISFED World Open in Montreal.
Steph, who is world and European champion in his class, beat Canada’s Alison Levine in the final to take gold.
He had earlier defeated Paralympic gold medallist Leung from Hong Kong.
Earlier in the competition, which is one of the key events ahead of the World Championships in Liverpool in August, Mcguire and playing partner Evie Edwards defeated Columbia 5-0 in the pairs final.
On his return from Canada, Steph said:“i’ve had an incredible start to the year, winning four international gold medals in Madrid and Montreal.
“Montreal was a World Open event, filled with Paralympic champions from Hong Kong and Rio medallists from Brazil. This competition was always going to be extremely tough.
“The start of 2018 has allowed me to keep building on the momentum from last year in the lead-up to World Championships in Liverpool this summer.
“My world ranking will remain number 1 at the moment, which will hopefully give me a good draw in the coming competitions.
“I have to say the encouragement and support from the people of Hamilton is superb.”
