Backlog running down

Wishaw followed up a 1-1 midweek Central First Division draw at Glasgow Perthshire by beating Lesmahagow 5-0 on Saturday and Shotts 6-0 on Monday, as they bite into their 16-game backlog.

Dean Kindlan was the scorer on Wednesday, while Paul Mcgeough notched a double in the 5-0 win, with singles from Dean and Dan Kindlan and Jasonthomson.

A penalty by goalkeeper Sandy Thomson and strikes by Mcgeough and James Coffey gave them a half-time lead. Vinnie Mcguire bagged a second-half hat-trick.

Shotts, meanwhile, had beat Forth 5-0 last Wednesday and followed that up with a 1-0 victory against Port Glasgow at Hannah Park on Saturday.

The win over Forth saw doubles by Justin Watson and Taylor Evans, either side of a Ross Foley strike.

On Saturday, Shotts started well, with Watson snapping up a Burns pass to fire them ahead in 10 minutes.

Blantyre Vics drew 1-1 at Greenock on Saturday, with Sam Mckenzie netting from a free-kick.

Manager John Gibson said:“i thought we should have won – we missed some chances. I was hoping for a win to keep us on track for fourth place and the play-off.”

Thorniewood took the lead against Rossvale last Wednesday through Damon Welsh, but ’Vale hit back to take a 3-1 lead before Ciaran Johnston snatched a late second.

On Saturday they were thrashed 5-0 by third-top Benburb, but on Monday hit back to beat Glasgow Perthshire 3-2. Gary Fallon and Gary Stewart (2) were on target.

Forth Wanderers lost 3-0 at home to St Roch’s.

Lesmahagow lost 3-1 at home to St Roch’s last Wednesday, then crashed 5-0 at Wishaw on Saturday.

Stephen Larkin, Warren Grenfell and Ryan Connelly scored as Forth beat Neilston 3-2 on Saturday.
