Slimmer transforms her life by losing 10st

A Hamilton slimmer who was left struggling to walk because her knee had buckled under her weight has transforme­d her life by losing 10 stones.

Michelle Mitchell was forced to turn her life around after a Christmas shopping trip to London left her with incredible knee pains and unable to walk properly for months.

The 48-year-old weighed 21 stones 5lbs and realised that if she didn’t take the pressure off her knee then she wouldn’t be able to walk properly and stop taking pain killers.

Now two years later Michelle, who joined Weight Watchers, has lost an amazing 10 stones.

She explained: “I started to eat more healthily, learning about nutrition and portion sizes.

“I received a Fitbit for Christmas in order to help me exercise and made I made it my mission to get 10,000 steps in each day.

“This was a challenge in the freezing weather conditions of January in Scotland.

“I soon found the pressure on my knees starting to go away, and I was able to stop taking painkiller­s.”

Michelle now looks forward to clothes shopping and loves being able to buy size 10 to 12 clothes without trying them on.

She added: “For the first time, this year I was able to buy vest tops and feel comfortabl­e wearing them in my back garden and was able to get a suntan in Scotland.

“I now love exercise. I started running for the first time in years with the Couch 2 5K in May this year and completed it.

“Now I can run around my local area non-stop for 30 minutes.”

Michelle’s biggest achievemen­t outside of Weight Watchers was getting a fantastic new job.

Now working for the Department of Internatio­nal Developmen­t as an executive assistant, this is something she would never have gone for as she would not have had the confidence to do so in the past.

She added: “Losing the weight has changed my life completely. I have five dogs, which I show, so you’ve got to be fit to walk them – something that I have less problems with.

“My biggest problem was snacking and eating cakes, biscuits and sweets. It wasn’t meal times.

“The next challenge will be to keep the weight off.”
