Urgent volunteer plea to save gala

- Stefanie Mccourt

Stonehouse Gala Day Group are appealing for new members to ensure next year’s event goes ahead.

The gala court for 2019 will be selected soon, with fundraising to take place through the year.

But the group say they desperately need the support of new members and have appealed for anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.

A spokesperson said: “A new gala court will be selected in September/ October and this allows all the fundraising to go right through the year.

“However, before all the fun can start all over again we have to be clear that without new members coming forward and joining the committee and taking on roles Gala Day 2019 may not go ahead.

“We are losing all of our role bearers this year – an amazing team who have worked so hard to make our Gala Day a much looked forward to event in our village calendar.

“All we ask is for two hours once a month for our meetings.

“We are all busy people with work and family lives and we know it can be hard to fit new stuff in but we promise it is also really good fun and so worthwhile.”

They urged anyone interested to go to the AGM on Wednesday, August 29 at 7pm in the Back Road pub.
