Park Friends hard at work
Volunteers have been hard at work on the flower beds in the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Park.
The Friends of Stonehouse Park (FOSP) took over responsibility for the area from South Lanarkshire Council, with supporters and local residents donating plants.
The flower beds are now awash with colour after a team spent the day planting.
FOSP chairperson David Wilson said: “We took over responsibility for the three flower beds surrounding the bandstand from the council last year.
“As a group we felt it important to have the flower beds planted more formally and not sown with wild flowers that could then spread across a larger area.
“We are happy to receive donations of plants from the public to put into these beds and hope over time to have them become blooming spaces for wildlife and butterflies.
“A huge thank you goes to those who have already donate flowers and cuttings and helped dig out the weeds and plant the shrubs.
“We plan also to take over the strip of embankment from the park keeper’s house to the west gate and sow wild flowers to encourage wildlife and create a bit of colour and interest for those walking through the park.”
Details of the next planting date will be on Facebook and the next committee meeting is in The Back Road on Sunday, September 2, at 7pm.
