Burns to the four in Shotts stroll

Danny Burns bagged four goals as Shotts thumped Lugar Boswell Thistle 6- 0 in their League One clash on Saturday.

Jordan Halsman, Burns and Michael Collander all went close before Burns pounced in 25 minutes to net the opener following fine play by Adam Hunter.

Burns doubled his lead four minutes later, scoring from a Chris Faulds pass.

On the hour Faulds scored from a Collander set-up. Then Jordan Craig replaced Adam Hunter in 64 minutes to change the match in an astonishin­g two-minute spell.

Craig’s corner in 65 minutes was netted by Chris Smith and a minute later his pass to Burns saw the striker claim his hat-trick.

In 82 minutes, Stevie Aitken set up Burns for his fourth and Shotts’ sixth.

Blantyre Vics lost 3- 0 at home to Maryhill, prompting manager John Gibson to comment: “I thought we could have been two or three up before Maryhill scored.

“Last Wednesday’s defeat was our first home league loss since September last year, so I am on the look-out for a couple of new players to strengthen the squad.”

Royal Albert recorded a 3-1 win at Glasgow Perthshire. Jamie Nesbitt said: “We took our chances and played well – we got away with it.”

Greg Fernie, Michael Neill and Chris Dolan were the men on target.

Wishaw lost 2- 1 at home to Gartcairn, with Vinnie Mcguire grabbing their goal.

Manager Kieran Mcguinness said: “We knew Gartcairn are a strong, physical team, so we tried to match them, but I’m a bit concerned about some of our play.”

Bellshill Athletic struggled as they went down 4- 1 at Shettlesto­n, with Connor Brannigan netting.

Boss Robert Sneddon said: “It was a poor day all round.”

In League Two, Lesmahagow snatched a last-minute winner from a Jon Mcstay header to beat Ardeer Thistle 3-2.

Neil Schonevill­e headed in a Paul Woodlock corner to give ’Gow an early lead, then Mcstay hit the post with a shot. Just as Lesmahagow thought they could extend their lead, Ardeer equalised, then five minutes later went 2-1 ahead.

Lesmahagow then sent on subs Luke Currie and Matty Clarke and the latter fired in a corner for Mcstay to head home, before he also bagged the winner two minutes into stoppage time.

Newmains United picked up their first league win of the season with a 5-2 result at Forth Wanderers.

Forth took the lead in 42 minutes when Kris Dick headed in a Lee Pettigrew corner, but Michael Barton equalised from a in 45 minutes.

In a three- minute spell around the hour mark, Willie Mcglone put Newmains in front before Stephen Larkin equalised.

Barton struck again in 68 minutes, ex-forth forward John Watson made it 4- 2 in 70 minutes, and Stephen Mooney added a last-gasp fifth.

Co- manager Craig Gupwell said: “It has been a long time coming. Last season was hard, but we always had the belief that when we got our own team in we would get the job done.
