We did enough to win
Hamilton goalkeeper Gary Woods says their derby win at Motherwell exorcises the demons of an opening day defeat to Hearts.
The keeper played well at Fir Park to keep Motherwell at bay at times.
And while he acknowledge that Hamilton weren’t brilliant, their defending and organisation set the scene for Steven Boyd to score a wonder-goal winner.
Woods said:“three points and a clean sheet is a fantastic feeling, especially coming here. It’s a derby match and we all know the importance of it, not just for us but for the fans.
“It was a disappointing result last week – a good first half, second half was not so good, and we needed to put that right. We came here and I thought we defended absolutely brilliantly, we reduced them to not many chances, then Boydy comes on and scores an absolute screamer.
“It was important for us to get off the mark – our next game is away at Parkhead and it’s always going to be difficult there. So we knew we had to go to Fir Park and get something. Probably a draw would have been fair, but a goal like that should win any game.
“I don’t think we were brilliant, I thought we were just well organised, we limited them to few chances and we nicked one at the other end.
“It’s an important win. It’s always good to come away from there with the points.”
