Strikers must improve

-

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson says he has a decision to make about his strikers after drawing a blank in their opening two league fixtures.

Saturday’s 1-0 derby defeat at home to Hamilton follows a 3-0 humbling at Hibs the previous week.

Robinson blasted captain Peter Hartley for conceding the free-kick that led to Hamilton’s goal. And he warned Conor Sammon and Curtis Main don’t that if they don’t shape up he will wield the axe.

He said:“we virtually dominated the whole game. It was an incredible strike from the boy, you’ve got to give him credit, but it was a stupid free-kick to give away again.

“It was the same last week – it gave the opportunity for it to happen. And then you’re chasing the game.

“Probably for the first time this season we looked really solid, but our play in the final third, the final decision, pass and anticipation up front wasn’t there, and it’s something I have to work on and sort out.

“We have a new partnership up there, we have Danny Johnson begging for his chance and he will get that now.

“It’s up to me to find that right combination.

“While I can’t question the players’ attitude and desire, we lacked a wee bit of quality in the final third.

“The two strikers have to learn to play with each other or I have to find the right combination of strikers .”
