Lights fantastic bring hundreds to Hamilton
Charity festive display at home is a Christmas cracker Competition... Competition... Competition... Competition
Hundreds of people have travelled from across Scotland to see the house in Hamilton which is lit up with thousands of Christmas lights for charity.
Last week, the Advertiser went along to Iain Fleming’s house in Forth Terrace to see the grand switch-on, and the festive street party.
But despite recent horrible weather, Iain said that hasn’t stopped people coming from far and wide to see his wonderfullylit home.
He said: “The high winds caused me some issues last week. Barely slept for two days, keeping an eye on it! I thought the big tree was going to end up taking off, but thankfully I had secured it well!
“I’ve had people round every night to see the lights, even in the high winds and rain!”
During the switch-on, the Hamilton Advertiser went live on Facebook to show all of our 19,000 followers the effort Iain and his family went to.
Our Facebook page had people tuning in from all over the world to watch the festivities on Forth Terrace, and our video has been viewed over 25,000 times.
Bette Stodart Jack commented: “Enjoying watching the fun here in Canada.”
Sharon Mclean also tuned in and said: “Watching live from Lanzarote, it’s amazing!”
Lynn Craig watched the action and wrote: “Watching Tenerife, it’s amazing!”
X Factor runner-up Nicky Mcdonald was also on the scene to sing a few songs, charity mascot Bella Beatson was also loving the evening and Santa Claus even stopped by to say hello.
This is the tenth year Iain has lit up his home in aid of charity. This year however, he is raising money for the Beatson Cancer Charity and there are collection cans outside his home.
Iain was delighted with the turnout at his first year in Hamilton, having moved to the town recently from Newmains.
From the night Iain gathered over £600 but you can make further donations to www. justgiving.com/fundraising/ iainchristmaslightdisplay live from
