So much to do and see this Christmas
Carols, panto, ice skating
With the countdown to Christmas officially upon us we’ve rounded up some of the top festive days out for all the family in Lanarkshire.
It will be anything but a silent night at Lanarkshire’s carol concerts in December.
Enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a three-course meal whilst listening to a choir sing all your festive favourites at New Lanark’s Carols by Candlelight.
Tickets cost £25 per person with several performances held throughout December.
Meanwhile, South Lanarkshire Choir will serve up music and mince pies at a concert at Low Parks Museum in Hamilton on Thursday, December 6.
Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a trip to see a pantomime.
Hamilton Town House’s version of Jack and the Beanstalk will be performed throughout the month of December, or alternatively visit Aladdin at Motherwell Concert Hall, where more tickets for the show have recently been released.
M&D’S Theme Park also boasts Lanarkshire’s only outdoor ice-rink. This is a popular 25m open rink that is suitable for all ages.
The theme park have also transformed the area into Santa’s Magical Wonderland, with storytelling and a visit to see Santa and reindeer.
Matthew Taylor, managing director of M&D’S, Scotland’s Theme Park, said: “Santa’s Magical Wonderland continues to grow in popularity each year. We are sure that this will be our best year yet as we’ve added even more for visitors to enjoy, including a Bavarian bar serving hot mulled wine and hot spiced cider, plus some outdoor festive market stalls.
“It is so important to us to deliver an unforgettable festive experience that can be enjoyed by all. For this reason, we are delighted to have added even more autism-friendly sessions this year.”
The New Lanark Christmas Experience is taking place every weekend on the run-up to Christmas, including Christmas Eve.
Tickets will include entry to the visitor centre attractions, including the Festive Spirit of Christmas Ride.
Goulding’s awardwinning garden centre’s Winter Wonderland will be open throughout the month of December, with the reindeer parade taking place every Saturday and Sunday.
And Strathaven’s Reindeer Parade is this Sunday (see page 39).
