Medals haul for Hamil­ton club

Thirty stu­dents from Mcgowan’s Black Belt Academy in Hamil­ton took 28 medals from tae kwon-do Bri­tish Cham­pi­onships at Raven­scraig.

The club had been pre­par­ing for three months, putting in ex­tra train­ing ses­sions in the weeks lead­ing up to the high pro­file event, which at­tracted over 750 com­peti­tors from across the UK, and coun­tries such as Bel­gium, Hol­land, Fin­land, Ire­land, In­dia and Uzbek­istan.

Medal win­ners were: Gold Ryan Camp­bell, Cameron Reid, Emily Boyd, Cara Wong, Alana Moody, Gor­don Hay. Sil­ver Cameron Reid, Jack Dob­bie (2), Rachel Steven, Erin Mccabe (2), Dar­rah Light­body, Dave Colville, Pjotr Burlakov, Fiona Cowan, Cara Wong. Bronze Gor­don Hay, Pjotr Burlakov, Eilidh Cowan,toby Adam, Joe Colville, Ella Wong, Olivia Ire­land, Cian Healy, Euan Baird, Rachel Steven, James We­ston.

In­struc­tor Kieran Mcgowan said: “We would like to thank our par­ents and coaches for all their sup­port in the run-up to the com­pe­ti­tion, and on the day as well. This was a fan­tas­tic way to round off what has been an ex­cel­lent year at com­pe­ti­tions across Scot­land.”
