Pupils dig deep for foodbank
Generous pupils from Hamilton College donated £3000 to the town’s foodbank.
Sixth-year students have been taking part in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), run by the Woodwardtrust.
They had to research a social issue which was close to their hearts in order to support a local charity.
And they presented their case to a group of judges including Alistair Cairns fromypi.
The winners were Sophie Patterson and Vicki Turner, who had chosen the social issue of poverty and wanted to champion the work of Hamilton District Foodbank.
So the foodbank were awarded the sum of £3000 by the pupils and YPI.
Lindsay Brynes, assistant principal at Hamilton College, said:“a number of our students are already involved in raising funds for some of these charities, or indeed volunteer regularly with them and are aware of just what a difference, an impact that they can make to the lives of individuals.”
