Pupils dig deep for food­bank

Gen­er­ous pupils from Hamil­ton Col­lege do­nated £3000 to the town’s food­bank.

Sixth-year stu­dents have been tak­ing part in the Youth Phi­lan­thropy Ini­tia­tive (YPI), run by the Wood­wardtrust.

They had to re­search a so­cial is­sue which was close to their hearts in or­der to sup­port a lo­cal char­ity.

And they pre­sented their case to a group of judges in­clud­ing Alistair Cairns fromypi.

The win­ners were So­phie Pat­ter­son and Vicki Turner, who had cho­sen the so­cial is­sue of poverty and wanted to cham­pion the work of Hamil­ton District Food­bank.

So the food­bank were awarded the sum of £3000 by the pupils and YPI.

Lind­say Brynes, as­sis­tant prin­ci­pal at Hamil­ton Col­lege, said:“a num­ber of our stu­dents are al­ready in­volved in rais­ing funds for some of th­ese char­i­ties, or in­deed vol­un­teer reg­u­larly with them and are aware of just what a dif­fer­ence, an im­pact that they can make to the lives of in­di­vid­u­als.”
