Tributes to the Advertiser’s ‘remarkable’ Ronnie Noble

- LEONA GREENAN

A former long-time staff member of the Hamilton Advertiser has passed away aged 74.

Ronnie Noble died peacefully in Hairmyres Hospital surrounded by his family on Christmas Eve, after taking unwell earlier in December.

The beloved dad-of-two was born and bred in Hamilton, coming into the world at Beckford Lodge on February 25, 1944.

In 1963 he met the love of his life, Rita, at the Trocadero Dancing, Hamilton, and the couple were married at Old Monkland Parish Church on April 2, 1966.

They went on to have children Margaret and Andrew and the family lived happily in William Drive, Hamilton, with Ronnie working at the Advertiser.

It was here that from the age of 15 he worked tirelessly and made his way up to become the process department manager until his retirement in 1998, aged 54.

A keen sports fan, Ronnie was involved with football all his life and ran Hamilton Avondale along with his brothers Stuart and Alan.

Notably, it was during his time at Avondale that he coached the late Davie Cooper before he was signed by Clydebank FC.

He also took great pride watching his son, Andrew, playing junior football for many years, and more recently his grandson Lewis.

Son Andy, who also worked for the Advertiser, said: “Dad was pretty remarkable and completed three Glasgow marathons over the years as well as completing the West Highland Way, Fife Coastal Way and climbing the Buachaille Etive Mor.

“He was a keen racegoer, visiting different courses in Britain, even owning his own private seat at Chester Races, which he frequented every May for the Chester Festival.

“A keen bowler and member of Quarter Boolin Club for over 30 years, he was a prominent member of the Lanarkshire community. He will be deeply missed by us all.”

Ronnie is survived by his wife Rita, daughter Margaret, son-inlaw David, son Andrew, daughterin-law Kirstine and grandchildren Lewis (18) and Emma (15).

He will be laid to rest on Monday, January 7, at 1.15pm at South Lanarkshire Crematorium.
