Heartfelt thanks to maternity staff
Parents from across Lanarkshire whose babies were saved by staff gathered at a Christmas party.
They all met at University Hospital Wishaw to thank the maternity team who helped their premature and ill newborns.
Steph Shilliday’s daughter Sophie spent over two months in the neonatal unit in 2017, and she said: “I’d just like to say a huge big thank you to all the staff who took time to help us to get through a really difficult time, we really appreciate it.”
Mums and dads of over 60 premature babies gathered together at the annual Christmas party. It is a celebration for all the babies and their families who spent extended periods of time in the neonatal unit over the previous year. The event is organised by neonatal staff and has become a seasonal tradition.
Lyn Clyde, chief midwife and operational manager, said:“the Christmas reunion is a very popular event in our calendar of support for families. It brings together families whose children spent time in the neonatal unit their early critical days, weeks and months of being a premature or ill newborn baby.
“It is also a chance to meet up with many of the staff from the hospital who cared for the babies when they were at their smallest and most vulnerable. All the babies and their siblings were very excited to meet our guest of honour Santa.”
