Snap happy after tourney success

-

Strathaven Camera Club has had one of its best successes in recent years when it was awarded the Kirkintilloch Plate at the Scottish Photographic Federation’s Digital Championships.

The federation is a network of almost 100 clubs from all over Scotland.

And the prestigious event was held in the Stirling Court Hotel in the grounds of Stirling University, where three judges had to select the winning shots from over 700 images.

Strathaven did well in the first round and were only nine points short of going through to the final eight clubs. The final was won by Dumfries Camera Club, who are currently one of the best camera clubs in the UK.

The remaining clubs then compete for a trophy which is known as the plate, where they have to submit ten images each of which can gain a maximum of five points per judge.

Strathaven’s Robert Young gained a maximum 15 points for his shot Auldhouse Snow, and Strathaven won the plate by 132 points, three points in front of Paisley Colour Photographic Club.

The second half of the season starts on Thursday, January 10, when the club will be viewing the 2017 Scottish Photographic Circle Print Exhibition.

Also in 2019, the club will be celebrating its 70th anniversary and an exhibition in planned for September.
