Fundraiser launched

A dedicated team of Hamilton community volunteers have launched a Crowdfunding campaign to boost their beloved park.

The Bothwell Road Action Group (BRAG) have been instrumental in leading recent improvements at the park, but want to see the campaign step up a gear.

They have formed a five-year plan to regenerate the park, which includes an area for older children, a sensory garden, new signage and improving the band stand.

It is estimated the overall project will cost over £100,000, with the first phase – climbing boulders and an assault course for youths and the sensory garden – costing around £5000.

BRAG chairperson Peter Mcghee said: “We have conducted an ongoing consultation in the local area and with park users to see what improvements can be made. It was clear that although the first phase improvements were welcomed and much of the equipment is accessible to all, there was no real provision for older children within the park or anywhere to sit and just enjoy the natural beauty of the park.

“To remedy this, the group want to raise over £5000 to install climbing boulders and an assault course for older young people as well as an accessible sensory garden.

“It is hoped that an accessible sensory garden will be maintained by local schools and youth groups and to take ownership of the park. It will also create a safe and accessible area for to relax and reflect.”

Individuals can support the work by donating at www.mypark.scot/pro…/bothwell-road-park-improvements
