Jailed for causing New year’s day ruckus

A Larkhall man has been jailed for four months after a New Year’s Day disturbanc­e in the town.

Brian Smyth (30), of Mason Street, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted threatenin­g or abusive behaviour at a neighbour’s house and at Lanark police station and Wishaw General Hospital.

The charge stated he went into Claire Blacklaw’s house uninvited, struck her on the head with his hand and threw household items about. He yelled abuse and threats, and struggled with police officers.

Smyth, who was on bail at the time, also admitted headbuttin­g a police officer.
