Welfare workshop looks at impact of reforms
A wide-ranging workshop on the impacts of welfare reform has been hosted by the South Lanarkshire Community Planning Partnership.
Partners from a number of organisations met to share experiences which could help inform future policy development.
They gathered to consider the impact welfare reform has on the individuals that they work with and support.
They also looked at actions that can be taken to minimise the effects of welfare reform.
Those attending included South Lanarkshire Council, Police, Fire, NHS, Health and Social Care Partnership, SPT, DWP, VASLAN (voluntary sector), Skills Development Scotland, local housing associations, food banks, Money Matters, Citizens Advice Bureau and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture.
Chair of the Community Planning Partnership and Depute Leader of South Lanarkshire Council, Councillor Maureen Chalmers, said:“this informal event allowed us to increase awareness and understanding of the impact of Welfare Reform on the people of South Lanarkshire.
“It provided an opportunity to share experiences and obtain valuable feedback from the community, voluntary and statutory organisations that support people.
“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to come along on the day and provided extremely valuable information. The learning from the day will be shared with our partners and key actions will be agreed.
“These actions will be used to shape and inform future partnership activity to benefit those impacted by Welfare Reform.”
