Housing event is talk of the town
Tenants and residents from across Motherwell gathered at a council event to discover more about housing services.
They met in the Daisy Park Community Centre to hear from local authority chiefs.
And the discussion included the sheltered housing review, tenant participation, repairs service, new build programme, environmental services and outlining plans for the future.
Jean Henderson, from Motherwell, said: “I thought today’s event was really good, I liked the fact that it was different from previous conferences. I spoke to lots of people and found the networking invaluable.”
By being part of these participation events tenants have a chance to share experiences, talk about the issues and priorities that matter to them and they also get the chance to speak directly to the staff delivering these services.
Councillor Allan Graham, convener of enterprise and housing, said: “It’s always great to speak directly with tenants and residents using our services.
“To gauge first-hand the positives, and sometimes negatives, gives us valuable feedback that allows us to further develop services or shape them differently to improve these.
“I look forward to reading the event evaluation in detail and being part of future tenant participation events. I would urge tenants to find out more about getting involved in housing services.”
Initial feedback from North Lanarkshire Council is that building new homes was the top priority.
Tracy Lennon, the council’s participation manager, said: “There are exciting times ahead for North Lanarkshire’s tenants and those attending our events were really keen to engage and be part of discussions. Involving tenants is key to everything we do and there are so many ways to do this either through tenant-led walkabouts, surveys and social media. “
