Vol­un­teer group look­ing for­ward to a busy 2019

Larkhall and Dis­trict Vol­un­teer Group are back with a packed sched­ule for the year ahead.

Ev­ery Mon­day, the cen­tre hosts their ge­neal­ogy group where mem­bers have free ac­cess to the li­brary edi­tion of An­ces­try.com.

Cur­rent mem­bers and helpers delve into their past his­tory to find out what their an­ces­tors have been up to.

Tues­days will see the new com­puter classes, which start on Jan­uary 15.

The class for be­gin­ners, which runs from 10am to noon, is fully booked at the mo­ment, but names are be­ing taken for the next ses­sion, which will be­gin in March.

A new in­ter­me­di­ate class for peo­ple with some knowl­edge, but who want to take it to the next stage, will be run from noon to 2pm and there are still places avail­able for this one.

There will also be a walk­ing group who meet up on Tues­days, and they will take part in a va­ri­ety of walks around the area.

It is es­sen­tial that book­ing is made in ad­vance for this ac­tiv­ity, as there are lim­ited spa­ces on the bus.

Wed­nes­day is for the gar­den­ing group, who get to­gether to en­joy a va­ri­ety of gar­den­ing ex­pe­ri­ences which in­clude pot­ting and plant­ing, main­tain­ing raised beds, plan­ning and pre­par­ing for the plant sales and crafts and go­ing on out­ings. Come along and share your ideas.

On a Thurs­day morn­ing and Fri­day morn­ing and af­ter­noon, there are keep fit classes.

Along with all of this, there is a monthly tea dance, al­ter­nately on a Wed­nes­day and Fri­day.

The foot­ball clas­sics group meet monthly on a Wed­nes­day to dis­cuss and watch clas­sics goals and matches, share knowl­edge and com­pan­ion­ship and cre­ate the cor­rect at­mos­phere by scoff­ing pies, mushy peas, and Bovril at half-time.

A spokesper­son for LDVG said: “We look for­ward to wel­com­ing you back to all your groups and ac­tiv­i­ties and we would like to re­mind you of all the op­tions you can choose from.

“There’s lots go­ing on and hope­fully you will find some­thing to suit your in­ter­ests, as we would like to en­cour­age new mem­bers and new vol­un­teers to join us.”

The group’s reg­u­lar ser­vices in­clude, lunch clubs, a free handyper­son ser­vice and the Call Line, which pro­vides es­sen­tial ser­vices in the Larkhall and dis­trict area. They also of­fer a trans­port and room hire fa­cil­i­ties.
