Shotts hold on to second spot

-

A good 2-0 win over Port Glasgow saw Shotts Bon Accord hold on to second spot in League One and stretch the gap over their opponents to four points.

Jordan Halsman scored the opener in 17 minutes when he latched onto a Danny Burns pass to slide the ball under the keeper.

Burns was brought down for a penalty and duly slotted the kick to clinch the 2-0 win.

Manager John Mckeown said: “It was a very encouraging display against a strong Port Glasgow side on their own patch.

“The win keeps us in second place behind Gartcairn, who have played one more game, so we will just get on with it.”

Wishaw drew 4-4 with leaders Gartcairn in Monklands.

They twice came from behind to level against Gartcairn, with Justin Watson putting Wishaw 3-2 ahead a minute before half-time.

Gartcairn took the lead two minutes into the game, with Watson levelling in 39 minutes.

They then took a 2-1 lead, with James Coffey equalising for Shotts, before Watson put them 3-2 ahead.

A second-half penalty levelled things for Gartcairn, before they took the lead in 82 minutes, only for Coffey to again equalise with four minutes left.

Blantyre Vics drew 2-2 at home to East Kilbride Thistle.

Thistle took advantage of sloppy play at the back, to take a 1-0 lead into the interval.

Jake Hughes’cross was headed in by Con Boyle to level, and after Thistle scored again in 70 minutes, Dylan Falconer bagged his first Vics goal in 76 minutes to earn a point.

Manager John Gibson said:“we started off annoyingly, missing three or four good chances, and we went in at half-time 1-0 down.

“The second half was much better; we had more possession, although Thistle took a 2-1 lead.

“Dylan Falconer got his first goal, but I was disappointed with the chances we missed.”

Royal Albert and Bellshill Athletic played out a 1-1 draw at Tilework Park in Stonehouse.

Scott Ballantyne gave Albert a first-half lead, netting from an Alan Campbell cross, but Jamie Stewart equalised for Bellshill.

Royal Albert manager Jamie Nesbitt said:“we were again depleted by injuries and had to line up five trialists.

“We asked the Scottish Junior FA for a postponement, but they told us to get on with the game.”

And he added:“then, to make matters worse, Callum Brady took a leg knock and ended up in hospital for treatment on a ligament injury.”

Bellshill boss Robert Sneddon commented:“we didn’t play well in the first half, but improved after the break when we scored our equaliser.”
