Clubs vie for places

-

Dalziel are staring relegation in the face following another thumping defeat in West League 1.

The Motherwell side are still looking for their second league win of the season after 12 attempts, as East Kilbride ran out convincing 72-27 winners.

That result leaves Dalziel 11 points behind nearest rivals Cumnock, though they do have games in hand over many of the teams directly above them.

A Darren Moon double and singles by Fraser Mckechnie and Andy Scott were added to by two conversions and a penalty from Andrew Glover.

Strathaven took the derby spoils in West League 2, following a resounding 53-7 win at W3ST.

The result pretty much cements Strathaven in fourth place, though they’re only four points behind Oban Lorne in third.

For Uddingston, they’re still second in the league but face runaway league-leaders Lenzie and Oban in their next two games, which could define their season.

Uddingston made a decent start but Strathaven scored either side of a Matthew Watson breakaway try to lead 10-7 at the interval.

A further seven unanswered tries in the second half left the Villagers empty handed.

An Uddingston spokesperson said: “There is no point in making excuses over the Villagers’performance.

“They were second to the breakdown, outplayed in the set piece and failed to counter the hard running style of the home side.

“That said, Strathaven set their stall out early and stuck to their game-plan outsmarting Uddingston across the pitch.

“This was as good a performance as we have seen from Strathaven in many a season.”

This weekend Hamilton will hope to build on Saturday’s win as they travel to second-placed Jed-forest in Tennent’s National League 1.

Biggar entertain a Whitecraigs side that is seven places and 42 points behind in National League 2, as they attempt to maintain their nine-point lead over second-placed Highland.

Dalziel host fourthplaced Greenock Wanderers at Dalziel Park in West League 1.

In West League 2, Uddingston will hope to claw back some of an 18-point gap in a top of the table clash at Bothwell Castle Policies, when Lenzie are the visitors.

A win for the Villagers would step up the pressure, with them also having a game in hand.

Fourth-placed Strathaven will want to emerge from Bishopton with full points to build on their bonus point win at home to Uddingston, as they eye Oban Lorne in third place.

Jed-forest v Hamilton is a 3pm kick-off, all others are 2pm.
