Ian’s links go back over 25 years

-

Ian Cannon says tennis coaching isn’t a profession that he intended to pursue, but he’s very happy that it’s his job.

He started at Uddingston Tennis Club before graduating over to Hamilton, a club with which he has long-established ties.

He said:“it wasn’t something I thought‘i’m going to do this as a career’. I’m lucky enough now that it’s my job, but I still feel that responsibility to help push people on and encourage them to keep playing the sport.

“I’ve been a member here since I was eight years old, which is 27 years ago, so quite a while! I’ve only been the head coach here for the last six years. There was someone else who was coaching here previously.

“I work between the two venues, they’re close enough together, and there are enough coaches between the two that they can co-exist.

“A friend of mine who worked out of Uddingston was going abroad for a year and asked if I wanted to take on Uddingston, so I’ve been there longer in terms of coaching, but longer here as a player.”
