Community will gather again to honour Blantyre’s heroes

-

The third annual Blantyre Oscars event will take place on Saturday, April 27.

This year’s red carpet event, which rewards achievements of people in the town, will once again be held at Carrigan’s.

Categories this year will include lifetime achievement, music and entertainment, inspirational individuals, heroism and kindness and environmental pride.

As well as rewarding a host of deserving community champions, guests will also be surprised with some top-secret celebrity messages for the winners in each category.

Event organiser Paul Veverka said: “it has now been confirmed that Blantyre Oscars will be taking place on April 27, at Carrigan’s, Blantyre.

“The charity awards evening will again have a buffet, raffle and amazing after-party, and this year proceeds will be split between fundraising for the summer gala and the Beatson.

“The 15 nominees will be announced this coming week, and throughout March you can vote for your five favourites online.

“We’re also pleased to announce that Glen Travel are the official overall sponsor of Blantyre Oscars 2019.

“As overall sponsor, the local travel agents have ensured all the nominees and their partners will have free tickets to the event. With thanks to Alan Glen for his kindness, we’re excited to get sponsorship underway.

“Tickets cannot be reserved, but will go on sale at the end of February. As before, the popular event is expected to sell out.

“This is the highlight of the year for us, and we can’t wait to give some deserved recognition to all the Blantyre individuals and organisations. We’ve been hugely impressed with this previous year.

“Meantime, you can follow all the latest news at the Blantyre Oscars Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blantyreoscars.”

Last year’s event saw local man David Purse crowned the overall winner, having gained the most votes from members of the public, under the music and entertainment category.
