Get into the swing of things with big band

-

Calling all budding singers – Hamilton’s Heart and Soul Swing Band need you!

The band are currently working towards their Community Gospel Choir Programme with a day of musical enjoyment and discovery. Those interested are urged to register their interest. Singing takes place in St John’s Parish Church in Hamilton, where you can enjoy singing and swinging in the company of the Church of Scotland’s own big band.

The Reverend Joanne Hood, lead vocalist of the 20-piece band, said:“from 11am to 1pm the choir will focus on warming up, before exploring the basics of gospel singing. Then from 2pm to 4pm the emphasis will be on learning some great swing numbers, both accompanied and a cappella, from different parts of the world. Tuition will be given by two experts in the field of jazz, who are committed to making great music both fun and accessible – Richard Michael, an acclaimed jazz pianist, arranger and educator, and Eliot Murray, a band leader, singer, multi-instrumentalist and jazz tutor.

“This event is open to all ages and abilities - and don’t worry if you can’t read music or have no church connection. Everyone is welcome.

“Admission is free and space is limited, so register now and we’ll look forward to seeing you in March for a wonderful day of singing and swinging. To register log on to www.eventbrite.com/e/ sing-with-the-swing-band-tickets-54921201793.
