County sides are playing for league places

-

Relegation from West League 1 now looks likely for Dalziel, who lost 21-0 at home to Greenock Wanderers on Saturday.

The result left the Motherwell side 11 points behind nearest challengers Cumnock, though Dalziel have a game in hand.

Uddingston dropped down a place to third in West League 2, following their 26-12 defeat at home to leaders Lenzie.

After their lacklustre display against Strathaven last week, Uddingston put up a much improved performance, with big carries across the pitch and some robust tackling forcing Lenzie to work hard for their win.

At half-time the match was still a tight contest at 12-5, with James Brown scoring for the Villagers.

Lenzie opened up a 26-5 gap, with Donald Haldane scoring a consolation try which was then converted by Juan Jordan.

The result sees Lenzie open up a 21-point gap at the top of the table, while only four points separate Oban in second from Strathaven in fourth.

Strathaven have hit a rich vein of form lately, notching up a 73-0 win at Bishopton, moving them up to fourth, two points behind Uddingston.

This weekend Hamilton will hope to get back to winning ways, when they host fourth-placed Musselburgh in Tennent’s National League 1.

It’s a head-on clash in National League 2, as leaders Biggar travel to second-placed Highland in Inverness.

In West League 1, Dalziel could move to within six points of 11th-placed Cumnock, and with a game in hand, when they travel to their Ayrshire rivals. Defeat will leave them rooted to the bottom, however.

Third-placed Uddingston travel to second-placed Oban Lorne in West League 2, while Strathaven, in fourth, host basement dwellers Cumbernauld.
