Gordon’s decades working with the club

-

Gordon Lindsay knows Hamilton Rugby Club like the back of his hand, having spent most of his life associated with them.

Lindsay has fulfilled pretty much every role imaginable, but says there have been some great moments.

He said:“i started off playing at 15 or 16, I was a player for about four or five years, left and then came back in my early 30s, and at that point it was just as a player in their 3rd XV.

“From then on in I was doing team management for the threes, and then got voted on as fixtures secretary, so I’ve done that for the last few years.

“I’ve volunteered for the ladies, coaching them, and we’re doing Tartan Touch, which is run by the SRU and I’m ambassador for that as well.

“Because of all that, the club put me forward in 2017 for SRU Volunteer of the Month, which I managed to get, and that was a big shock, but emotional as well. It’s nice to know that the club and the girls appreciate everything you do.

“At the start of the year it was the Sports Council awards in Hamilton and that was something I never thought I would be at, but I got Adult Volunteer of the Year, which was an even bigger shock, given the folk I was up against.

“It has been a really emotional time when it comes to stuff like that, but the club here is just amazing, it’s great, it’s a family atmosphere and it’s brilliant.

“Hamilton Rugby Club is a massive thing in the community. You have fireworks night when you’ve probably got well over 1000 folk coming down, you have festivals here which are great days, and we have games here throughout the week; the under-18s are here on Monday and Wednesday nights, seniors are Tuesdays and Thursdays, minis and kids are on Wednesday night as well, and then there are games on Saturdays and Sundays, so there isn’t really a break.”
