Our pet therapy

-

This week, we visited Neilsland Primary in Hamilton as part of our new Class Acts feature.

We went along to see their very exciting Friday afternoon class, where they have a special guest come along to the school.

Each week, the children of Neilsland take part in a ‘pet therapy’ session.

Digby is the school’s pet therapy dog who comes along to class as part of the Reading with Dogs initiative.

Children tell Digby stories or read him a book. This is the second year with Digby and he is hugely popular with all the children and staff.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has had a big impact in the school, as he supports the pupils with their emotional health and well-being focus.

Frankie Murray, Digby’s owner, has become a key part of the team too. Digby works with children from all stages. The pet therapy team have also been involved in whole-school events. This has involved various pet therapy dogs coming to the school to work with whole class groups.

Head teacher Pamela Kelly said: “We were delighted to take part in the Class Acts section and would love to be featured regularly!”
