Raising a glass to all of the best pubs across Hamilton

-

A host of Hamilton pubs raised a glass after picking up gongs at the regional Best Bar None Awards.

Venues who train staff up to a level that ensures the public can enjoy a safe and welcoming atmosphere are given the nationally-recognised accreditation.

And a bunch of them also got together at the Alona Hotel in Motherwell for some additional honours.

Carrigan’s in Hamilton was named the town’s overall Best Bar None champ, as well as the Best Bar.

Hemingways also celebrated a double with wins for Best Use of Innovation and Best Independent Pub.

The Academical Vaults scoop the Best Pub, The Libertine picked up the Most Improved gong, Bar West was named Best Independent Bar and The Woodside Bar received the Heart of the Community prize.

A total of 38 premises were also awarded Best Bar None status on the night.

Peter Fergie, co-cordinator for the Lanarkshire Best Bar None initiative, said: ”All of the premises involved this year deserve high praise and congratulations for their efforts in attaining the accreditations, and I hope that those efforts are recognised awards ceremony too.

“The Best Bar None scheme recognises that pubs, clubs and hotels meet a standard that promotes a safe environment for clients whilst providing a supportive environment for staff at the national health, welfare and development with the consequence that it has been seen to reduce violence and anti-social behaviour in and around these premises.”

Best Bar None is run through the Scottish Business Resilience Centre initiative, and is co-ordinated locally by Police Scotland licensing officers and South Lanarkshire’s Trading Standards team.

All the Best Bar None award winners will now be put forward for the national Best Bar None awards to be held in March at the Hilton Dunblane Hydro.
