Hannah snaps up top award

-

A Strathaven photography student has received a top award for her stunning snap.

Hannah Jackson scooped the ‘Living the View’ Landscape Photographer of the Year 2018 youth category gong.

The 18-year-old, who is studying at the University of Cumbria, was recognised for her arresting abstract image, ‘Band on the Run’ which depicts a brass band reflected in a tuba.

The UK Landscape Photographer of the Year (Take a View) awards were established as a means to share a passion for beautiful surroundings through photography.

However, it is not the first Hannah’s striking imagery has commended with an award.

She previously received the ‘Young time been Landscape Photographer of the Year’ award from the same competition in 2016 and the following year she won two out of four categories.

Hannah was presented with her award at a ceremony at London’s Waterloo Station, which is hosting the exhibition of winning images.

The exhibition will tour the UK’S main railway stations during the year.

Delighted Hannah said: “I was over the moon when I received the news that one of my images had reached the shortlist and was thrilled to be announced as the winner.

“The image came about when I had the privilege of being the official post-race photographer for the charity, Shelter, at the 2017 Great North Run.

“Whilst I was there I noticed a band playing outside the ‘Help for Heroes’ tent and I was fascinated by how the image of the whole band could be captured on a single instrument.

“The image is a reflection of the entire band fanned out in the tuba, including raindrops.

“This experience has spurred me on to take my photography further after university.

“It’s my dream to work with photography, but it’s too early to tell which genre I prefer.”
