Nerves over public show

-

East Kilbride artist Fiona Longley recently held her first ever solo art exhibition.

The five-day showcase entitled ‘Everyday Battles’was held in the gallery of Cass-art in Glasgow’s Queen Street and featured large canvas works painted mainly in monochrome acrylic and oil.

Fiona, who attends classes in St Bride’s Church hall held by Murray artist Jason Campbell, admitted to some first night nerves on her preview evening but was delighted with a sale on the first night.

Fiona said:“i really appreciate Jason’s help and guidance in teaching me how to paint what I see and not what I think I see.

“My hope is that this series will engage the viewer in a conversation about the mental, physical and emotional battles we all face in society today.”

The artist intends continuing to push forward the boundaries of her art in 2019.

Meanwhile, East Kilbride Arts Centre are to play host to tribute act ABBA – MUSIK on Sunday, February 10.

The band consists of two experienced female singers, Ashleigh and Melissa.

Both performers are outstanding singers in their own right and between them have performed in Spain, Greece, and Florida and extensively in Scotland.

With more than 300 performances between them the girls bring both performing and technical expertise to the show that creates an audience experience beyond expectation.

The girls are supported by their musical director - a veteran of rock, blues and classical background who also records, mixes and engineers the music. Great care is taken to recreate the atmospheric sounds of the original Polar studios in Stockholm and the tracks are a perfect fit for the live vocals resulting in an authentic ABBA sound.

Admission is £9. Doors 2pm.
